History gets published everywhere, not just in blogs! Want a more in-depth look at some of the historical topics I’ve covered? Some of my articles are available via open access! Such a deal! Free scholarship! One is on lies made up about the Mongol Empire and the other is about lies made about medieval women who had money. Fun stuff about the Middle Ages!

This essay on Chinggis (Genghis) Khan appeared in the East Bay Historia, Spring 2023 edition. After writing about the Renaissance and the Black Death, I became super interested in the Mongol empire, but quickly discovered that there are a lot of false stereotypes about who the Mongols were, what they did, and how they did it. Don’t be put off by those terms “racialized” or “discourse”–those are fancy academic buzzwords that simply mean a discussion about how old, white European historians made up things about people who weren’t like them.

If you want to read about why the Mongols are portrayed this way, check out my article here, in an an abridged version of the Historia. (Read here or download to your device by clicking the link below the image).
